Oney Anwar and Rio Waida, Indonesia’s top two rated surfers, have joined Bali Belly’s newly formed surf team. The duo recently took their friendly rivalry to new heights at the Krui Pro where they finished 1st & 2nd respectively in the first ever all-Indonesian WSL final. They faced-off again last weekend in the final of the RAST Kuta Beach competition.
“I’m so pumped on this partnership”, said Oney, who currently sits at 43rd place on the WSL Qualifying Series global rankings. “Even when I’m overseas competing I check balibelly.com to see what the waves are doing. Now I’m looking forward to sharing more of my journey through the platform. Go Indo!”
18-year-old young gun Rio Waida is equally excited. “I look up to Oney a lot – he’s my Captain. We travel together where possible and support each other at events. Now that we’re teammates our bond gets stronger.”
Stay tuned as Oney and Rio will be releasing some exclusive content through the Bali Belly website and social channels in the coming months.
“Oney and Rio serve as great role models for the next generation of Indonesian rippers” said Yudi Andika, Bali Belly team manager. “They’ve proven that if you train hard, act professionally, and remain focused you’ll find success… but possessing crazy surfing talent certainly helps! It’s an honour to be supporting Indonesia’s best.”
